Group Education Program Information

Programs at Your Facility

The Center offers off-site educational programs that can be geared toward specific grade levels and that meet SC Science Standards. Programs include access to lesson plans for activities to be conducted by the teachers before and after the program.

Each one-hour program features a selection of bird of prey species and may include: owls, falcons, hawks, vultures and eagles. Students will learn about the specific adaptations of each of these birds that allow them to thrive in their own unique lifestyle. Students will be able to get their hands on bio-artifacts like feet, feathers and wings of various birds of prey and will also have the chance to ask questions they may have related to the birds. Flight demonstrations may be possible upon request.

Field Trips to the Center for Birds of Prey

Group visits to the Center are accepted on a reservation basis. They include a guided tour and a flight demonstration as described below as well as access to pre- and post-visit lesson plans. The tour and demonstration have been tailored to meet the requirements of the SC Science Standards.

Guided Tour: During your tour, one of the Center’s educators will lead your group in an exploration of some of the many exciting birds that are a part of our permanent collection. Discussions of various aspects of the birds’ natural history as well as conservation challenges facing the individual species will be tailored to fit the particular needs and interests of the group.

Flight Demonstration: One of the most unique and exciting aspects of the visitor experience at the Center for Birds of Prey is the free flight demonstration. See a falcon dive at speeds over 100 MPH. Listen closely as an owl coasts past your head without making a sound. Watch as trained eagles and vultures soar with wild raptors above the center’s flying fields. Each flight demonstration includes a period for questions and an up-close visit with the flight team birds.
